A video game that can play itself now counts as an animated film.

For the first time ever a video game is eliagible for an Academy Award.

Everything, is a relaxing PC/PS4 game in which you can control anything in the world. This game won a jury award at the 2017 Vienna Shorts Festival, qualifying it for the Oscars.

Everything’s creator David OReilly said that it’s “the first time this has happened to a game/interactive project.” It won the Jury Prize in Animation, which makes it eligible for the Animated Short Film Oscar.
